Muay Boran

Muay Boran has recently become available to the western world through the International Muay Boran Academy (I.M.B.A.) headed by Arjan Marco De-Cesaris I.M.B.A. is a network of martial arts academies where dedicated students can safely practice a modern concept on the ancient forms of Muay. The Thai National Culture Commission was given an assignment by the Thai Ministry of Education in the early 1990's to gather and classify a complete technical repertoire of Muay from the different styles around the country. This task was completed by some of the highest Thai GrandMasters alive to today. Bramarjarn Chinawut Sirisompan (Grand Master Woody) Bramarjan Phosawad Saengsawan (Khru Pho) Bramarjan Sane Tubtimthong (Grand Master Sane) Arjan Marco De-Cesaris Under the supervision of Mr. Payungsak Jantrasurin, a complete and official technical progression was devised, allowing the serious study and practice of differing Muay techniques in form and application by students of the International Muay Boran Academy

The Technical Progression These classify the techniques of Muay Boran as taught in four categories of elevation CHERNG MUAY : The principles of use of the natural weapons of the the human body hands, feet, shins, knees,elbows, head and their various combinations, to strike the vital areas of the opponent's body KON MUAY KEE : The ways and techniques to defend by evading, blocking, deflecting, anticipating and counter MAE MAI - LOOK MAI : The fundamental forms MUAY PRAM : Grappling and close quarter fighting The system is put together using techniques taken from the differing styles of Muay: KORAT, CHIAYA, PAK LAN, TA SAO, LOP BURIA Practicing these forms develops four key fighting notions : timing, distance, targeting the vital parts of the opponent's body and using ones natural weapons with maximum efficiency.
